According to the Guinness Book of World
Records, the Saluki is the world's oldest dog breed. They are believed to have
originated in Egypt around 329 BC.
The Saluki, also known as the Persian Greyhound or the gazelle hound . The Saluki Dogs are slim, leggy and swift who love to chase. Saluki was the hunting hound of kings for thousands of years. He is the very definition of grace and speed, well deserving of the name bestowed on him by his Arab breeders — The Noble.
Males can stand between 23 and 28 inches at the shoulder; females can be much shorter. Their large, oval-shaped eyes are warm and intelligent. The tail of the breed is long and curved. It has the typical deep-chested, long-legged body of sight hounds. The coat comes in a variety of colors including white, cream, fawn, red, grizzle, black, and tri-color (white, black and tan). Salukis are highly adaptable, able to live and work in any climate. Their Life span could be 12 to 14 years.
